Currently, the circulating supply of XRP is . With each transaction on the XRP Ledger, a very small amount of XRP is permanently destroyed, making XRP a slightly deflationary digital currency. This is why the current circulating supply is smaller than the initial (and maximum) XRP supply of 100 billion coins.
XRP supports large-scale applications and long term projects, with 2.8B+ transactions processed representing over $1T in value moved between counterparties since 2012. XRP also offers lightning-fast, cost-effective transactions that settle every 3-5 seconds at fractions of a cent per transaction.

Currently, Pi Network recommends to all Pioneers and potential Pi users not to engage with any of these exchanges or third party actors as their actions are not affiliated with Pi Network, and could result in substantial loss or damage to Pi users. Pi Network is also requesting these posts and exchange listings removed, and evaluating additional actions with respect to the third parties and exchanges. In the interim, it is important to reiterate that the transaction of Pi through an exchange is explicitly prohibited during the Enclosed Mainnet period, and doing so would be a violation of Pi’s policies.

Conversely, with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, nodes must compete against each other to validate transactions. With Pi, the more nodes you invite to the network, the more rewards you receive for securing the network.
Did You Know? Pi Network has seen incredible network growth in the last year – more than doubling the network to over 33 million Engaged Pioneers. Thank you Pioneers for being the backbone of Pi Network. #minepi #piday2022 pic.twitter.com/3QEZaQCUqp

Cryptocurrency stocks
One of the biggest winners is Axie Infinity — a Pokémon-inspired game where players collect Axies (NFTs of digital pets), breed and battle them against other players to earn Smooth Love Potion (SLP) — the in-game reward token. This game was extremely popular in developing countries like The Philippines, due to the level of income they could earn. Players in the Philippines can check the price of SLP to PHP today directly on CoinMarketCap.
The best part about cryptocurrency stocks is that most of them are not pure plays on the industry, so investors have the reward of ample diversification. Cryptocurrencies are quite volatile and can cause wild swings in the revenue and earnings of companies with sector exposure.
In January 2024 the SEC approved 11 exchange traded funds to invest in Bitcoin. There were already a number of Bitcoin ETFs available in other countries, but this change allowed them to be available to retail investors in the United States. This opens the way for a much wider range of investors to be able to add some exposure to cryptocurrency in their portfolios.
PayPal’s Venmo digital wallet and peer-to-peer payments app, which unlocked crypto trading in early 2021, offer a similar mix of simple banking features and mass-market crypto-trading tools. At the launch, Venmo supported the trading of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash (BCH -1.28%), Ethereum, and Litecoin (LTC -1.28%). With the most users of any peer-to-peer money movement app, Venmo could become a leading cryptocurrency platform with its new feature. It serves as a solid access point for investors who wish to buy major cryptocurrencies and then use them to purchase altcoins or access decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.

Bitcoin (abbreviation: BTC; sign: ₿) is the first decentralized cryptocurrency. Nodes in the peer-to-peer bitcoin network verify transactions through cryptography and record them in a public distributed ledger, called a blockchain, without central oversight. Consensus between nodes is achieved using a computationally intensive process based on proof of work, called mining, that secures the bitcoin blockchain. Mining consumes large quantities of electricity and has been criticized for its environmental impact.
The mining process in bitcoin involves maintaining the blockchain through computer processing power. Miners group and broadcast new transactions into blocks, which are then verified by the network. Each block must contain a proof of work (PoW) to be accepted, involving finding a nonce number that, combined with the block content, produces a hash numerically smaller than the network’s difficulty target. : ch. 8 This PoW is simple to verify but hard to generate, requiring many attempts. : ch. 8 PoW forms the basis of bitcoin’s consensus mechanism.
In the blockchain, bitcoins are linked to specific addresses that are hashes of a public key. Creating an address involves generating a random private key and then computing the corresponding address. This process is almost instant, but the reverse (finding the private key for a given address) is nearly impossible. : ch. 4 Publishing a bitcoin address does not risk its private key, and it is extremely unlikely to accidentally generate a used key with funds. To use bitcoins, owners need their private key to digitally sign transactions, which are verified by the network using the public key, keeping the private key secret. : ch. 5
On 3 January 2009, the bitcoin network was created when Nakamoto mined the starting block of the chain, known as the genesis block. Embedded in this block was the text “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”, which is the date and headline of an issue of The Times newspaper. Nine days later, Hal Finney received the first bitcoin transaction: ten bitcoins from Nakamoto. Wei Dai and Nick Szabo were also early supporters. On May 22, 2010, the first known commercial transaction using bitcoin occurred when programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John’s pizzas for ₿10,000, in what would later be celebrated as “Bitcoin Pizza Day”.
Before bitcoin, several digital cash technologies were released, starting with David Chaum’s ecash in the 1980s. The idea that solutions to computational puzzles could have some value was first proposed by cryptographers Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor in 1992. The concept was independently rediscovered by Adam Back who developed Hashcash, a proof-of-work scheme for spam control in 1997. The first proposals for distributed digital scarcity-based cryptocurrencies came from cypherpunks Wei Dai (b-money) and Nick Szabo (bit gold) in 1998. In 2004, Hal Finney developed the first currency based on reusable proof of work. These various attempts were not successful: Chaum’s concept required centralized control and no banks wanted to sign on, Hashcash had no protection against double-spending, while b-money and bit gold were not resistant to Sybil attacks.
